Laughter Yoga 7:30-8:30pm Thursday Evenings (starting Thursday 4th July) with Linda Kolago
In the Sanctuary at Riverdell Spiritual Centre
$5 Per session
Dr Madan Kataria started the Laughter Yoga movement in 1995 which is now practiced in more than 70 countries. Scientific research shows that laughter releases chemicals from the brain such as; serotonin, endorphins, dopamine and oxytocin. Laughter Yoga as therapy a tool may boost our immune and circulatory system along with our emotional, physical, spiritual and social abilities, to develop a positive attitude in life.
Combining unconditional laughter with yoga breathing techniques (Pranayama), laughter is initially simulated as a physical exercise. The session starts with a gentle warm-up of stretching, chanting, clapping, which develops into feelings of childlike playfulness. Breathing exercises are used to prepare the lungs for laughter which when combined with acting and visualisation techniques with playfulness, the social dynamics of the group’s behaviour can lead to a prolonged unconditional contagious laughter. The session also includes a laughter meditation whereby participants allow the natural laughter to flow from within then followed by a guided body scan relaxation, (Yoga Nidra). This can be a powerful experience that leads to a healthy emotional catharsis and also a feeling of a release of joyfulness that can last for days.
